The 55th NAACP Image Awards released a few of the winners on Wednesday, and 'The Color Purple,' Chris Brown, amongst others, won big.

'The Color Purple' led nominations with 16 nods including Outstanding Soundtrack or Compilation Album and Best Ensemble, featuring the all-star cast; Fantasia, Taraji P. Henson, Halle Bailey, H.E.R., Corey Hawkins, Colman Domingo and Danielle Brooks. They won Best Ensemble. Blitz Bazawule, the film's director, won for Outstanding Breakthrough Creative (For a Motion Picture). Netflix's 'Survival of the Thickest' creator and star Michelle Buteau won the outstanding breakthrough creative prize for TV, 'Variety' reports.

Chris Brown, 34, won two awards in both the contemporary and traditional categories for Outstanding Duo, Group, Or Collaboration. His collaboration with Davido and Lojay, "Sensational" won the former, while his track with Ciara, "How We Roll," on which he made a guest appearance, clinched the latter.

Victoria Monet also clinched two awards for Outstanding New Artist and Outstanding Album for 'Jaguar II.'

During the broadcast, Amanda Gorman, writer, poet and activist, will be honored by the NAACP with the prestigious Chairman's Award. 

Supergroup New Edition will also be inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame during the telecast. "The Hall of Fame Award is bestowed on pioneers in their respective fields and whose influence will shape the profession for generations to come," a press release from BET said. "Previous inductees include Eddie Murphy, Stevie Wonder, Oprah Winfrey, Spike Lee, Carlos Santana, Little Richard..." amongst others.

R&B singer and songwriter MAZE frontman Frankie Beverly will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.

"It is our distinct honor to celebrate New Edition and Frankie Beverly-musical icons who have been instrumental in shaping our cultural landscape with their remarkable talent and enduring influence," said NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson. "We recognize the power of their artistry in showcasing the enduring power of Black excellence in the arts."

The 55th NAACP Image Awards, hosted by Queen Latifah, will premiere live from the Shrine Auditorium on Saturday, March 16, at 8pm ET/PT on BET and CBS.
