Every first day of April, it has been an annual custom to pull jokes and pranks and then announce "April Fools!" at the end of the day or the next.

It is a day when people can do or say things they don't really mean, and everyone would just laugh it off.

Here are some of the best April Fools' Day pranks by celebrities, in no particular order.

1. Chris Pratt's Mickey Mouse announcement

For April Fools' last year, the "Guardians of the Galaxy" star took to Instagram to share that he "will be the lead voice in the upcoming film adaptation of Disney's Mickey Mouse."

"Get ready for it to hit the big screens in 2025!" he said.

Pratt's joke was a "nightmare fuel for Disney fans and also a sweet revenge on those who criticized his voice-acting work" for "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," according to Screen Rant.

2. Sarah Polley's kid's Oscar prank

Oscar-awarded screenwriter Sarah Polley received a cute April Fools' prank from her 11-year-old child last year. The latter sent her a letter saying that the Oscar Best Adapted Screenplay award she won for "Women Talking" was a mistake.

Many found the "David Rubin-signed" letter hilarious that it received over 3.4 million views and 2,200 retweets on X, formerly Twitter.

3. David F. Sandberg's fake "Shazam!" trailer

The "Shazam!" director teased fans with a hilarious fake teaser for the upcoming Warner Bros' adaptation of the DC superhero.

After the trailer opened with the WB & DC logos and a serious voiceover, retro footage of the "Shazam!" TV series from the 70s was shown.

"Shazam! The Rise of Ponysmasher," read the text flashed in the fake trailer.

4. Rick Astley's music retirement

In 2023, the "Never Gonna Give You Up" singer trolled his fans when he uploaded an edited photo of him surrounded by cats with the announcement of his retirement.

"It's been a great run, but I've decided to devote the next ten years to kittens. Rick," he captioned his tweet.

Many found his April Fools post funny, and it even received over 81,000 upvotes after being reposted on Reddit.

"Well, in that case, I'm never gonna give you pup," wrote one witty commenter on the thread, while another said, "Never gonna run with hounds and hurt you."

"I had a 'feline' this was an April Fools' [post]," tweeted someone else.

5. Kit Harington's prank on his then-fiancée

 

For April Fools' Day in 2017, "Game of Thrones" actor Kit Harington pranked his then-fiancé Rose Leslie with a severed head modeled after him and placed it inside their refrigerator.

While the prank was a success as he got Leslie's horrified response, he joked about receiving a warning from Leslie.

"My family does April Fool's. Her family doesn't... She pretty much told me if I did it ever again, that would be it and I think that's marriage included," he quipped, as he recalled his prank on the "Jonathan Ross Show."

Luckily for him, they still tied the knot in 2018.

6. Rihanna's prank on Jimmy Kimmel

 

While waking up to Rihanna in one's bedroom may be a dream for others, it left Jimmy Kimmel disoriented and bewildered.

In 2015, the "Umbrella" singer pranked the sleeping talk show host with a surprise performance in his bedroom. While singing with backup performers, she threw dollar bills at Kimmel.

"I would admit, that's not usually how you come to me in my dreams," he told Rihanna on his show, making her laugh.

7. Michael Strahan's tooth gap prank

In 2021, the former professional football player fooled fans into thinking that he closed his iconic tooth gap.

However, Strahan revealed in an Instagram post that it was just an April Fools' Day prank, saying, "I didn't know so many people really cared... I appreciate all the love for the gap."

"C'mon man! The gap is here to stay. Not going anywhere, anytime soon... My mama likes it."

8. Aubrey Plaza's "artistic installation"

Last year, the Delaware government joked about having a 100ft tall statue of Aubrey Plaza's character on "Parks and Recreation," April Ludgate.

They even added a hilarious quote from Plaza's character, which says, "The air is so fresh. It's disgusting."

"Thank God, someone that works for Delaware has a sense of humor," commented one netizen at the time.
