CSI: Crime Scene Investigation will be a man short for part of the upcoming season.

Actor George Eads will be taking a leave of absence from the CBS show following an altercation with a writer, according to Deadline. While cast members have come and gone during the procedurals 13 seasons, Eads has been portraying Nick Stokes since the shows inception in 2000.

Will the CSI Team Lose a Member in the Premiere?

However, Eads will disappear from the 14th season during the 300th episode, according to The Hollywood Reporter. There is no word on when the 46-year-old actor will return to set.

"George Eads will not appear in several episodes during the first half of the season. We look forward to him returning to CSI very soon," said a CBS spokesperson, according to Deadline.

The temporary leave comes after Eads argued with an eight-month pregnant writer over the direction his character was taking in recent episodes. Following the altercation, Eads reportedly threatened to quit while in a meeting with showrunner Carol Mendelsohn, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Hollywood Reporter states that when Marg Helgenberger returns as Catherine Willows during the landmark 300th episode, she will select Stokes to receive extra training at Quantico.

The good news out of this announcement is that viewers will get to see Willows interacting with the Las Vegas team in real time as opposed to only flashbacks.

CSI will return to CBS on Sept. 25.
