Dannielynn Birkhead, who is Anna Nicole Smith's young five year old daughter, has taken part in the famous Kentucky Derby along  with her father Larry this past weekend.

The little girl looked a picture of happiness at the event, wearing a colorful flower hat as well as a floral themed dress. Photos can be seen on RadarOnline. 

Five year old Birkhead's short life has already been filled with tragedy after her mother Anna Nicole Smith died when she was just five months old. In addition, her big brother Daniel also died just days following her birth.

However, people say children are resilient and little Dannielynn is certainly proving so, as she looked excited and happy enjoying life at the Derby.

Birkhead was at the center of an intense paternity battle in her young life, and her father Larry has attempted to shield her from press attention. So it was a special treat when he allowed her to answer some questions at the event. Getting in the spirit of the festivities little Dannielynn explained how she believed the "red horse" was going to win the Derby.

Her tip was off however, as the yellow horse "I'll Have Another" came through as the winner in the race.

The event is very meaningful for the family as it was at the Kentucky Derby in 2004 where father Larry first met Anna Nicole Smith, according to the Hollywood Life.
