Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been given a full-season (22 episode) pick-up by ABC, the network announced Thursday.

The series' pilot premiered on Sept. 24 to 12.1 million total viewers and delivered TV's highest-rated drama debut in nearly four years with a 4.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic, according to TV Line. The adventure-drama also beat NCIS for the No. 2 spot at 8 p.m.

As of Thursday, S.H.I.E.L.D. ranks as the No. 1 new show of the 2013-14 TV season among the 18-49 demographic. It airs Tuesdays at 8/7 p.m. Central.

Tuesday's episode, The Asset, began with an undercover S.H.I.E.L.D agent driving a tractor-trailer and then being attacked by an unseen force that lifted his semi straight into the air and smashed it down into the ground. Construction equipment then busts through the damaged cargo hold where the cargo is revealed to be a man.

Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. team soon reveal that the man is Dr. Franklin Hall (British actor Ian Hart), a former advisor to Fitz and Simmons and was one of a number of scientists that S.H.I.E.L.D. had under protection. The recovering undercover agent believes that the only way someone could have known Hall's whereabouts was if they had worked for S.H.I.E.L.D. The team then works to discover the mole.
