Athletes competing at the London 2012 Olympics will be given a special limited edition of the Samsung Galaxy S3 by Samsung. The South-Korean electronics company and VISA confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S3 will be the official Olympic Games Phone during the London 2012 Games.

These phones will be used by prominent sponsored athletes and will feature a new PayWave NFC-powered application which will allow them to pay for purchases by waving their phones across thousands of locations in London, including the Olympic park.

The PayWave app enables users to hold their phone near one of 140,000 terminals which will then deduct the money from their account. Purchases of over $30 will require a passcode.

The highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S3 was finally unveiled in London last week at Samsung's "Mobile Unpacked" event in Earl's Court. The company claims that the Galaxy S3 was "designed for humans and inspired by nature."

The latest handset will go on sale in Europe first at the end of this month. It is expected to hit the shelves in America next month.
According to Samsung, the phone has "the enhanced intelligence to make everyday life easier." The phone features a massive 4.8 inch HD Super AMOLED display, an 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera.  "Samsung GALAXY S III is powered by Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, with greatly enhanced usability and practicality to make life easier," a statement from Samsung reads.
