Production behind Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones released a sneek peek clip of the film to give fans a scare before it hits theaters Jan. 3.

The video features Andrew Jacobs, who plays the possessed lead character Jesse, as he is pursued by mysterious forces while his family and friends try to save him. At one point he grabs the hand of a woman who seems to be his mother and has her bleeding profusely within moments. The clip also shows Jesse flying into the middle of the room, causing a whirlwind of destruction.

Paranormal Activity has proved in the past that it is about building the tension, letting the audience get to know the characters and then coming with the scares. If this trailer is any indication about the direction of The Marked Ones, the franchise is leaning toward highlighting special effects.

The first Paranormal Activity released in 2007 and grossed over $107 million worldwide with a film budget of only $15,000. It was the most profitable film of all time, based on return of investment.

The third film broke records, such as the highest grossed movie for a midnight horror opening, and it was also the highest grossing film in the franchise, making over $200 million.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones will look to rebound from the fourth one, which brought in a quarter of what the third installment made. A reviewer for Complex.com thinks the new film will be a success, saying, The Marked Ones has, "a constant energy to the film that none of its predecessors have.
