On Monday, MarketSaw revealed some information on the casting rumors, and it looks like Oldman may have some competition with Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) over the same role.

A source reportedly revealed these rumors as well as who has already snagged a part.

Natalie Portman Dishes On Episode VII

"Ian McDiarmid, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, Warwick Davis, Benedict Cumberbatch and Gary Oldman. I believe Cumberbatch and Oldman were pursued for the same role, but I don't know how that will work out with the script changes, but I'm told they are both involved," the source revealed.

According to Unleash The Fanboy, the character that these two actors are most likely up for is the villain, mainly because Cumberbatch played a villain in Star Trek Into Darkness and The Hobbit Trilogy.

As for the film's plot, it looks like there might be a somewhat familiar storyline from another Star Wars flick, including twins on a path towards darkness.

"Ultimately, it's about twins, and which will take a path towards darkness and which will follow in their father's footsteps, or at least that's what it used to be, that may come later as I think changes are being undertaken to bring the original cast into the forefront of the story leading to ramifications that lead up to the next generation of Skywalkers," the source added.

Star Wars: Episode VII is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2015.
