Thanos will be more than just an intangible threat during Guardians of the Galaxy.

'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Chris Pratt Dishes On Film's Big Secrets, Advocates Mystery

The Mad Titan will be making his first appearance since The Avengers when Marvel heads across the universe for their first Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) adventure.

"There is an actor," said Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios' president of production, according to Empire (via Flickering Myth). "I'm not sure we want to announce it yet."

'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Is 'Definitely' Tied To 'Avengers 3'; Will Thanos Bridge The Films?

Until Feige's statement, director James Gunn had been dancing around the subject since the start of filming. While Gunn did acknowledge that Thanos would be part of the project's mythology, he stopped short of explaining just how Marvel's overarching villain would feature.

"Thanos is a character in our movie. ... He works with Ronan," Gunn explained to Crave Online at the Thor: The Dark World premiere, carefully sidestepping the question. "In my movie Ronan works for Thanos, and Ronan is the main bad guy in our film."

When Thanos made his first appearance in the Avengers post-credit scene, the baddie was played by stuntman Damion Poitier (see video below). However, ScreenCrush claims that Poitier will most likely not return for a second run.

Marvelites may have to wait until Guardians' Aug. 1 release to find out who will take on the Titans' mantel.
