Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is slowly unraveling Skye's mysterious past and fans have been left to puzzle the former hacktivist's "darkness" over the summer hiatus.

FitzSimmons' Future On The Line, Jed Whedon Hints At Fitz's Upcoming 'Agents Of SHIELD' Problems

Skye (Chloe Bennet) is a 0-8-4 with a bloody past. Unknowingly protected by SHIELD throughout her childhood, Skye has yet to discover why she was classified as an 'object of unknown origin' and why an entire village was destroyed as "monsters" attempted to recover her.

Although Skye is oblivious to the fact that these villainous creatures were her parents, Raina (Ruth Negga) knows the so-called monsters were actually Skye's true parents. Whoever - or whatever - Skye's birth parent's really are is currently unknown, although fans did get a glimps of her father's (bloody?) hand at the conclusion of the "Beginning of the End."

'Agent Carter' TV Show To Portray A 'Very Different Facet' Of Hayley Atwell's Agent Over 8 Episodes

"I think we can't really say anything, but I think the end of the season answers some questions, but asked a lot of new questions," series co-creator Jed Whedon told BuzzFeed while denying to confirm if the mysterious man was actually dripping blood. "We're optimistic about a Season 2, and the chance to answer those questions."

Executive producer Jeffery Bell, however, has informed TV Guide that fans will think the ultimate reveal will be "the coolest thing ever."

As for the darkness Raina refers to, Bell failed to narrow the field when he claimed it could be almost anything.

"I would argue that Raina says a lot of things, but we all have darkness," Bell told TV Guide. "We don't do anything causally. We're aware of what we're saying. How these things play out and what they mean hopefully are open to interpretation."

Do you think Skye's past will turn her into the monster Raina promised Ward (Brett Dalton), or will it be something the agent can turn to SHIELD's advantage? Sound off in the poll below!

Agents of SHIELD will return to ABC next fall at 9 p.m. on Tuesdays.
