After news of Jessica Chastain being offered a role to star in the second season of True Detective broke out, the actress addressed the rumors in an interview dated May 22.

Chastain spoke to Variety while promoting her new film, The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby, at Cannes. She was quite surprised about the news, adding that it really seemed to have spread like wild fire.

"That news broke yesterday, and everybody went crazy on the Internet," Chastain said.

But while it was an exciting rumor for fans, Chastain might not have been all that happy about it. She went on to talk about how once an actor was rumored about for the cast with absolutely no factual basis it actually hurt their chances at getting a part in the show.

"It's an awkward thing because when all that attention happens - it takes away from whoever plays the role," she said.

What We Know About The Plot And Casting So Far 

So, it seems like the actress won't be starring in the show after all but that will absolutely not discourage her from watching the second season.

"I'm a big fan of the series," Chastain said. "I'm going to watch the second season just like I watched every episode of the first."

Story Won't Be A Murder Mystery This Time Around?  

She also added that she was very taken by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey's performances on the show.

The first season of the HBO series which was a critical success starred Harrelson andMcConaughey in the lead roles as a pair of detectives who return to an unsolved case about a ritualistic serial killer after around a decade.

The first season of the series was was directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
