The drama has already started on the upcoming season of Survivor, just days before filming has even begun.

The next season of Survivor, which is titled San Juan del Sur, brings pairs of loved ones together to compete with and against each other, using the same twist as Season 27's Blood vs. Water. Instead of one returning player and their loved one, though, the cast is made up entirely of new players.

The upcoming season was originally slated to feature 10 pairs of two, bringing the total number of players to 20, there was an incident before this week's filming, causing one of the pairs to drop out.

Survivor host Jeff Probst spoke with Dalton Ross and Jessica Shaw on EW Live this week and revealed that one of the pairs had to drop out right before filming began Monday. However, instead of bringing in a replacement pair, the season will go on with the remaining cast.

This means that Survivor: San Juan del Sur will feature 18 players rather than 20, with nine pairs of two.

Survivor: Blood vs. Water featured a similar incident when Survivor: Philippines contestant RC Saint-Amour was set to compete in the season with her father but they were forced to sit out amid her father's health issues. They were replaced by Candice and John Cody at the last minute.

Survivor: San Juan del Sur premieres in fall 2014 on CBS, though the network has not yet announced a premiere date. It will be returning to its regular Wednesdays at 8 p.m. timeslot.
