Will There Be A Two-Part 'Doctor Who' Finale? Rachel Talalay Talks Creating Steven Moffat's Episodes

In the seven seasons since Doctor Who returned to the BBC, the series has seen three Doctors in the form of Christopher Eccleston, David tenant, and Matt Smith. Now that the iconic program has added Peter Capaldi to its ranks, showrunner Steven Moffat believes it is time for the Who universe to get a little overhaul.

"We haven't made much of change to Doctor Who since it came back in 2005," Moffat said at the Hay Festival in May, according to Metro. "It's been the same show. It's maybe amped some things up and lowered some other things, but it's basically the same. I just feel it needs to be different and it needs to be surprising again."

In order to accomplish this, Moffat and his team selected Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor. Following the boyish charm of Tennant and Smith, the venerable nature of the new Doctor could help to up the drama as Capaldi heads into darker territory.

"I saw a little of Peter Capaldi in action and he is wonderful," said Mark Gattis, a Doctor Who writer, according to Adorocinema (via Doctor Who TV). "I think it will be very exciting for everyone, because it is a more dangerous, more urgent Doctor. It has a side of crazy."
