The Mentalist will soon enter its seventh season on television, and it may very well be it's last.

At least that is the prediction the series' writers are working under as they prepare for a delayed and shortened season.

"It is not official but we are all working under the very strong assumption that this is the last season," said writer Jordan Harper in response to anxious fans on Wednesday.

Described by series creator Bruno Heller as an "encore" season, the upcoming 13 episodes should be fan friendly.

"The purpose of an encore is to get people leaving the theater happy and giving them what they want and hitting your marks as strong as possible, so that will be the intention," Heller told The Hollywood Reporter.

Unfortunately for viewers, The Mentalist is not included in CBS' fall schedule. Instead, the series is expected to air during the mid-season hiatus.

"[The premiere will air] sometime in early 2015," said actor Kim Kang (Cho) on Wednesday. "I want to say January, but you never know..."
