The Season 7 premiere of FX's Sons of Anarchy aired Tuesday night and while Jax (Charlie Hunnam) is still unaware that his mother Gemma (Katey Sagal) murdered his wife Tara (Maggie Siff), he very likely will in the weeks to come.

Sons of Anarchy Final Season Compared To The Godfather

The level of trust Jax has for his mother was too much to question in the season premiere, in which Gemma manipulated Jax into killing an innocent Asian man who she said murdered Tara. With Jax's trust for Gemma being as strong as it is, it seems like there would be no way that he'd believe she killed Tara.

Paris Barclay, who directed the premiere, spoke to Vulture after the episode and teased that it wasn't very likely that Jax wouldn't find out eventually.

Gemma Haunted By Tara In Final Season of Sons of Anarchy

"I think it's very unlikely that the last season of Sons of Anarchy will end without Jax knowing the truth about Tara's death," Barclay admitted. "Very unlikely!"

Barclay also noted that Jax has put himself in a position where he is able to be manipulated by her.

"He's very close to her. In the first episode, he said, 'I love you.' He really turned to her, completely unsuspecting that she's responsible for the death of Tara, for solace, for comfort, for support, for taking care of the kids, for being a sounding board," Barclay explained.

He added that the mother and son are actually closer now than they ever have been in the wake of the murder, to the extent that they're almost "too close for comfort in a way, but that's where Gemma needs to have Jax, in order for her to feel comfortable."

Sons of Anarchy airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.
