While the infamous Mikael may be feared and despised by his children on The Originals, the cast was excited to learn that actor Sebastian Roche would be reprising the role for the program's second season on The CW.

'The Originals' Holiday Episode Coming Soon

Roche sat down to talk with E! about the character. While Roche made a brief appearance during the last few episodes of the show during Season 1, his return for Season 2 hadn't always been certain.

Nonetheless, the actor had faith.

Davina Getting 'A Lot Stronger' As She Takes On Klaus In New Episodes Of 'The Originals'

"When you have Originals in the title and you're Papa Original, I knew that eventually I was going to pop my head in," teased the actor during the interview. "The first five episodes are going to be very intense and it's going to be quite an epic season, there's no question about it. We're in store for some amazing confrontations between Mikael and his sons."

Mikael and his sons are far from allies. The relationship between Mikael and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) has always been strained, and his relationship with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) has been known to burn cities to the ground -- literally.

"Mikael has this thousand-year-old rage and desire for revenge for his son," continued Roche. "There are going to be some different aspects this time around but that desire for revenge will be there still. You'll see different layers to the character through flashbacks and we'll see the history of some of the other characters of our family."

Roche also revealed that the flashbacks won't be restricted to the Mikaelson family's past. Other characters, including new hybrid and mother to Klaus' child Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) will also be getting some further backstory as the new episodes roll in.

The Originals returns to The CW for a second season on a new night Monday, October 6 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
