Lifetime announced that they would bring the show back for a third season in 2015 September 26, ending two months of wait time that kept fans on their toes as they waited for word on whether or not the show would air again after taking a small dip in ratings over the course of season 2.

"We are thrilled to be bringing Devious Maids back for another season. Marc Cherry has created a uniquely twisted world that blends his comic wit with devilishly ingenious characters and plot twists," Rob Sharenow, executive VP and general manager of Lifetime told The Hollywood Reporter.

A Surprising 'Devious Maids' Fan Reveals Himself

Fans were left guessing if the series-which stars Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem and Judy Reyes as the titular maids-would return after Lifetime kept mum on their plans for the show following its July finale, which ended on a massive cliffhanger. And fans weren't the only ones left guessing, as even the show's stars freely admitted they had not yet received word on their fate.

Ana Ortiz, who portrays Marisol on the show, told WPIX 11 in August that she didn't know what was going on, but she did believe the show still had a good chance of returning for a new season/

"Lots of talks but we still haven't heard officially, but we have high hopes," she said at the time. "I mean, the fans really want it, so we'll see."

Earlier that month, her co-star, Roselyn Sanchez also opened up about the status of the show, saying that she was confident it would be back because the show was performing well for the channel.

"Everyone is very positive, it's the highest rates show for Lifetime so they need it, we are super proud of it," she said.

The show had managed to pull in a respectable amount of average viewers with 3.1 million in its second season, though it was a drop from last year's 3.8 million. However, the show did face some stiffer competition in its 10 p.m. timeslot on Sundays this past season, with a wide variety of other highly-rated shows-including HBO's Silicon Valley and The Leftovers, AMC's Mad Men, Bravo's Real Housewives of Atlanta and Real Housewives of New Jersey, Adult Swim's Bob's Burgers, TLC's Return to Amish, TNT's Falling Skies and Discovery's Naked and Afraid-all also airing during the timeslot.

An official premiere date for the third season has not been announced.
