After making easily one of the most successful, and critically acclaimed, comic book series of all-time, director Christopher Nolan is now looking forward to diving into other content that isn't superhero movies. But that hasn't stopped him from commenting on the state of the genre.

In an interview with Time Out last week, Nolan discussed the work of Zack Snyder and how he hopes that superhero movies don't saturate Hollywood from now on.

"You don't want Hollywood to hit saturation point with those things," he said. "But then Zack Snyder is now doing his part by bringing Batman and Superman into one film [for 2016's 'Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice'], so that limits the number!"

He also discussed the Justice League universe that Warner Bros. was working on and how these stories would open up new possibilities for the genre.

"I don't see it as a limited genre. If I did, I never would have worked for almost ten years in that genre," Nolan said.

"I think like any genre, like the Western, it has limitless opportunities. It's just about the audience's appetite. What's very important is that the studios be open to making other sorts of films at the same time."

While Nolan has already stated that he won't be involved with any future DC comic movies, he still is a figurehead for the genre as he has deeply influenced blockbusters nowadays and namely the DC universe that is being created.

Justice League: Part 1 is set to be released in 2017 with Part 2 following in 2019.
