He is going to become the fresh face in the already established Avengers team, but it never was a character that he loved early on. What was the thing that made Chadwick Boseman want to play Black Panther?

This 'Captain America 2' Character Is Set To Be The Main Villain In The Third Movie

Boseman spoke with Entertainment Weekly on Thursday to promote his role in Get on Up, but also dished about Captain America: Civil War and how he got excited to play a superhero.

"I wasn't, like, a fanatic. I definitely read comic books, but this particular character was not someone that I knew very well until the last 10 years or so. I'd heard of him, but I hadn't really been like I'm a huge Black Panther fan," he said.

Could The Newest 'Captain America' Cast Member Play A Former Villain?

"I think once you get into the film business, though, you start thinking about things that would be really cool to do, and then I fell in love with [the character]. For me, that's going to be the case for most people who watch it, for most people who see this character emerge inside the Marvel world. And it's the right time for it, at the end of the day. It's the right time for the character to emerge and to have his own life, so I'm really, really excited for it. And I just feel it can be done the right way right now."

He was asked for more specific details on the movie and was unable to answer them, but it seems like he is excited about playing this role.

It seems like Black Panther will be incredibly important in this feud between Iron Man and Captain America and looks to be taking the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the comics so Boseman is hitting the ground running within the universe.

Captain America: Civil War comes out on May 6, 2016.
