Speculation went rampant when Daniel Bruhl joined the cast of the third Captain America movie, but could his joining actually be the reincarnation of a character we have already seen?

Newest Marvel Character Talks Inclusion & Mayhem In 'Captain America 3'

SlashFilm speculated on Monday what his character could be and one suggestion was a familiar face that had already terrorized Steve Rogers before: Red Skull.

While we saw Red Skull being sucked up into another dimension via the Tesseract, it is a comic book movie and deaths don't always stay cemented in this lore. Previous actor Hugo Weaving has also said that he isn't too interested in reprising the role, so naturally, could Bruhl step in and be Red Skull moving forward?

Marvel Is Bringing In A Previous Director To Helm 'Avengers 3' After Joss Whedon Leaves?

This does cause issues with the report that Bruhl would also be the villain in Doctor Strange as it would be unlikely the villain would appear in that movie also, but maybe the plot could center around some Hydra takeover that Steven Strange has to take care of.

According to the site, while the Red Skull does not play a large role in the Civil War itself, he is instrumental in the major event that takes place immediately afterward: the death of Captain America. The Red Skull, in the body of Aleksander Lukin, orders Crossbones and a hypnotized Sharon Carter to assassinate Captain America.

By joining a new body, it could make sense that the Red Skull is now looking like Bruhl rather than Weaving and could re-introduce the character into the plot that has made Hydra a modern force rather than something from World War II.

Captain America: Civil War comes out on May 6, 2016.
