Even though a list of who could play Jean Grey and Cyclops caught attention last week, it seems like X-Men had already found their Apocalypse by that time. But what about this casting choice makes the movie that much more exciting?

Is This Oscar-Winning 'Star Wars' Actress Still A Possibility For 'X-Men: Apocalypse?'

Variety reported on Monday that Inside Llewyn Davis and future Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac is pegged to play the titular villain in 2016's X-Men Apocalypse. It was said that the actor beat out Idris Elba and Pablo Pascal for the role, which was opened up after Tom Hardy declined.

Isaac is becoming a big name now with his more award-driven work getting noticed with last year's Inside Llewyn Davis and this year's A Most Violent Year putting him in the Oscar discussion for two straight years while his inclusion in next year's Star Wars: The Force Awakens could make him a mega-blockbuster star as well.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' Could Be Zeroing In On This Big Name Star To Play Their Villain

It seems like he has already turned heads and enjoyed his blockbuster experience because not long after the production on Star Wars ends, he is joining the superhero craze with X-Men.

Isaac is a strong actor and giving him the villain role could be an interesting change of pace for him. As of now, his Star Wars role seems to be more Han Solo-like while his other big roles haven't been inherently evil. It will be interesting to see the actor take a new direction with the character, which could possibly have a longer arc than anticipated with the franchise.

It also shows that Bryan Singer and company are looking for the next big thing again with their actors. They did that with the re-cast in First Class with Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, and Jennifer Lawrence joining and again with Peter Dinklage coming off Game of Thrones in Days of Future Past.

Isaac won't be the last up-and-comer to join the cast as whoever is Jean Grey or Cyclops will go under the same category, but either way, the series just added a big-time actor to its ranks who could bring an iconic villain to life.
