Showtime will explore the relationship between Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) on Penny Dreadful in Season 2.

To top it off, their friendship could just turn Vanessa against Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway).

'New Challenges & Old Enemies' Coming For 'Penny Dreadful' Season 2 

Producer Christopher King revealed that a new episode four scene was being shot on Tuesday that involved Green and Treadaway. However, it's uncertain as to whether these characters will be meeting as friends or foes.

Ethan, Vanessa, and Frankenstein had been part of Sir Malcolm's (Timothy Dalton) search party for Mina during season one. But after Frankenstein's secret betrayal of Ethan during the finale, that dynamic could be changing fast. 

Vanessa is close friends with Ethan and could very well choose him over Frankenstein if forced to take sides in a new internal battle within their own group of misfits. Then again, with new villains both human and otherwise this season, they might not have time to be turning on one another.

Penny Dreadful has been having a busy month both on and off the set. On Wednesday, the Victorian supernatural drama scored a nomination for Best Drama at the Broadcast Awards, which could help the series build momentum to enter award show circles next year.
