The heroes of Avengers: Age of Ultron do not want to meet Joss Whedon in a dark ally.

The Avengers 2 writer/director already gave a rather morbid teaser for Earth's Mightiest Heroes' second adventure, and his recent interview with Empire Magazine makes it seem like the Avengers are in for a rough sequel.

"I've been working on a lot of Ultron scenes, so I'm very anti-Avengers right now," Whedon told Empire (via Screen Crush). "You can't write someone if you don't love them and I've come to the conclusion that Ultron is right. The Avengers need to die."

Avengers fans shouldn't get worked up just yet, however. As Whedon said, his current anti-Avenger sentiment stems from his time with Ultron footage, meaning he may not actually knock off one of the main characters.

Whedon hopes his sympathy for the film's villain will rub off on viewers.

"You know, hopefully, you will come out of this, if not agreeing with him, then getting him, and getting his pain, which leads to a lot of damage, and some humor," Whedon told IGN. "The important thing for me is he's not this external thing. He's not, you know, Independence Day. I'm not criticizing that movie, but I'm saying that when he's in his scenes, you want to feel like he will never understand that he's not the hero."
