"I don't want to sound bitter because I'm definitely not, but I don't know if people are meant to be together forever. Things happen over a long relationship that you can't always fight," she said.

But fighting for happiness means sacrifices in a marriage, and Duff doesn't know if that's worth it to her. She gave the impression that it all just comes down to being there for herself and hoping for the best in her future.

"A marriage of 20 years, the accomplishment of that must feel really great, but there are also huge sacrifices. I just always want to fight for happiness," she said.

As she divorces Comrie, she is allegedly fighting for primary custody of her two-year-old son, Luca.

TMZ reported that the actress and singer wants Comrie to have visitation but is worried that his partying and drinking may interfere with his well-being and could adversely affect their son.
