As it turns out, it didn't take much for Caitriona Balfe to nab the coveted role of Claire on Starz's Outlander.

According to TV Line on Monday, the actress won producers over with just a single line.

"Stop! Help! He's going over!" she cried as part of her audition, and executive producer Maril Davis knew that had their star.

No one thought that finding the right Claire would be an easy task. After all, the character is famous through the hit novel series by Diana Gabladon.

"[Claire] is the show, in a lot of ways," insisted executive producer Ronald D. Moore. The series is, after all, told from her perspective. She narrates the program and much of the story is seen through her eyes.

If Balfe's audition had left any doubt amongst show runners, that doubt was immediately eliminated when they watched her do a screen test with Sam Heughan.

"As soon as they got together, we just knew," admitted Davis.

If Claire "is" the show, then her relationship with Jamie Fraser (Heughan) is undoubtably a big part of that. Now that they are married, Claire is slowly being forced to reconcile the possibility that she may never return to her real time and that this new marriage may permanently come to overshadow her marriage to Frank (Tobias Menzies).

Outlander will return on Starz for the remainder of its first season on Saturday, April 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
