His plans to challenge Nathan (Ryan Peavy) to a duel for Maxie's (Kirsten Storms) affections didn't go quite as well as he planned, and despite technically losing, Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) still isn't ready to give up on her on General Hospital.

Spinelli and Nathan's Fight For Maxie Takes An Unexpected Turn

After Nathan requested that he leave town, Spinelli challenged the detective to a duel via boxing match. And despite successfully evading Nathan's blows for most of the match, he was knocked out during the final rounds and technically lost-even though Maxie did arrive in time to see the fight.

And though the fact that it was his idea for the duel was brought to Maxie's attention, she did still turn things mainly against Nathan for agreeing to it because he was clearly bigger and fitter and could cause some serious damage. After Maxie berated him however, Nathan decided he had had enough of her indecision-and said he would bow out.

Spinelli Finds A New Way To Break Up Maxie & Nathan

Now, after believing Nathan is truly no longer a threat to his attempts to win Maxie back, Spinelli will see if he truly has a chance with her again. However, he will be shocked when Maxie appears resistant to him, and seems to hint that she and Nathan are still together, giving Spinelli still zero chance at reuniting with the mother of his daughter.

"Why would you presume that Nathan and I are over?" Maxie asks him in a preview clip for the Wednesday, March 25 episode.

Now, Spinelli will be forced to make potentially his final plea for her-and if he fails, it could cause him to finally give up and leave Port Charles for good.

General Hospital airs Monday-Friday at 3 p.m. on ABC.
