On Wednesday, the Hollywood Reporter announced that Johnson released a statement saying, "While I will not be returning to direct the sequels, I wish nothing but success to whosoever takes on the exciting challenges of films two and three."

'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Author E. L. James Feuding With Film Director Over More Control?

Johnson's decision to quit comes as no surprise after rumors took over the Internet claiming that she and James were in a huge war with one another partially because the author wanted more control over the film.

The Latino Post reported that the relationship between the duo has become "absolutely toxic" and the ladies despise each other.

Back in January, Variety reported that there has been a delay in the production because Universal executives and James have yet to reach an agreement regarding the new film.

A Universal spokesman released a statement saying, "The studio had always intended to sit down with the author after the film opened and discuss next steps, and that has not yet happened."

Fifty Shades Darker was set to hit theaters in late 2016 however due to the fact that execs need to find a new director and possibly a new script writer, the film could experience yet another delay in production.
