Jon Hamm is reportedly joining Natalie Portman to space for the astronaut drama film Pale Blue Dot.

Hamm is said to be in talks over a starring role in the film Pale Blue Dot, who will be helmed by Noah Hawley. Production is expected to begin in spring, as the director's Legion is done and series Fargo's production will start next year.

Pale Blue Dot talks about the true-to-life events in the love and life of an astronaut in space and on earth. Portman will play as a married astronaut who goes home to earth after her mission. There, she pursues her co-astronaut, Hamm's character.

However, Portman's life was far from perfect, as her long stay in space had taken its toll on her relationship with her family. This was something that had been an issue with those who spend longer periods out of earth.

As for Hamm's character, he would start another affair with another, an astronaut trainee. Pale Blue Dot was to be starred by Reese Witherspoon, but she ended up being a producer with Bruna Papandrea.

'Pale Blue Dot' Inspiration

The script is penned by Elliott DiGuiseppi and Brian C. Brown, who took inspiration from a 2007 incident, when Lisa Marie Nowak, a NASA officer, kidnapped the person involved in a love triangle. Pale Blue Dot would be under Fox Searchlight, the production company responsible for the highly acclaimed films The Shape of Water and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

As for the title, Pale Blue Dot, it was from the image of the earth taken in 1990 by the Voyager 1. The name was coined by Carl Sagan, who also wrote a book with the same title.

"Twenty-five years ago, Voyager 1 looked back toward Earth and saw a 'pale blue dot,' an image that continues to inspire wonderment about the spot we call home," Ed Stone, scientist for the mission, said.

Hamm's Credits

As for his credits, Hamm was most popular for his role in AMC's Mad Men, which ended in 2015, as Don Draper. He won two Golden Globe awards for best performance by an actor in a television series-drama, and an Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a drama series in 2015.

Hamm appeared in Baby Driver as a robber and in Marjorie Prime as Walter. The handsome face's latest acting stint was Beirut, which had debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.
