They changed quite a bit about their family in order to provide a legal adoption for Robyn's kids, and now the Sister Wives cast is opening up about the long-but still successful-process.

Kody & Robyn Head To Court

In a new interview with People Magazine, Meri, Robyn and Christine all opened up about the road that led to Dayton, Aurora and Breanna officially being adopted as Brown children back in June-a victory that recently aired on the family's reality show.

Though the divorce did open up unexpected wounds-and made Meri vulnerable to an incident where she was catfished-she appears to have no regrets now about ending her 20+ year marriage to Kody so he could legally marry Robyn in the family's first step towards making the adoption legal.

Will Baby No. 18 Be A Boy Or A Girl?

"We had to do the restructuring so that we would do the adoption," Meri says. "That was something I decided to do just for the purpose of the kids. And the adoption, it was something that I knew that they wanted to have their legal name Brown. They really wanted to be adopted."

Meri's decision later earned praise from her fellow wives, especially Christine, who reflected on being awed by the move.

"It was a really sweet offer and, as far as polygamous relationships go, I don't know of any other family that has done this," she said. "Where another wife has given up a legal marriage so he can marry another wife and that way they can adopt the kids. This isn't something that happens so it was really sweet and generous."

However, Robyn does admit that they were wracked with nerves that things wouldn't have a positive outcome when they finally went before a judge.

"Usually when a plural family goes into a courtroom they are tearing apart a family so we were really nervous going in," she said. "But here we were the whole family and we were uniting our family. It was really cool for us, Very much a validation of our family."

Sister Wives airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on TLC.
