William Guest, one of the music industry’s legends, an original member of Gladys Knight and the Pips dies at 74 in Detroit on Thursday, just before Christmas day.

According to Associated Press, Guest's sister-in-law Dhyana Ziegler reveals that the singer died of congestive heart failure.

“My heart is broken, but I know his legacy will live on,” Guest’s daughter, Monique Guest, said in a statement. She then also shared on her Twitter account on her father’s passing:

Associated Press also recalls Gladys Knight and the Pips were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Apollo Hall of Fame in 2006. After the group ended, Guest and another member, the late Edward Patten, formed a production company. Guest later served as CEO of Crew Records. He released his autobiography "Midnight Train From Georgia: A Pips Journey" in 2013 with Ziegler.

"I am so glad we finished the book, so his wonderful life and legacy will be celebrated throughout eternity," Ziegler said. "I loved my brother so much."

The Grammy award-winning group -- who performed together from 1953 to 1989 -- was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Apollo Hall of Fame in 2006, Entertainment Tonight wrote.

According to Us Weekly, Guest later formed a production company with Patten after the group disbanded — Patten and Guest Productions — and he managed artists through the Crew Entertainment Company after Patten died in 2005.

The beloved singer released his autobiography, Midnight Train From Georgia: A Pips Journey, in 2013.
