There was more to the story when Michelle Obama debuted her new bangs last month. Her latest hairstyle was a result of the First Lady’s desire to take a walk on the wild side ahead of her 50th birthday next year. On the Wed., Feb 20. episode of The Rachael Ray Show, she told the chef-turned-talk show host that her bangs were her mid life crisis.

“This is my midlife crisis. I couldn’t get a sports car,” she said joking about her much talked about hair do.

“They won’t let me bungee jump. So instead I cut my bangs.”

The First Lady’s Twitter followers were the first to catch a glimpse of her look, when she uploaded a new profile avatar on the social media site in January.

Probably the most important opinion to consider in the Michelle Obama bang matter is President Obama’s. Fortunately, he was in love with his wife’s new do. He gushed over her look at an inauguration event last month.

“To address the most significant event of the weekend, I love her bangs. She looks good. She always looks good,” the President said.

During the skype interview, Michelle Obama also dished on her favorite movie picks for the upcoming Academy Awards. The First Lady has her favorites which include Beasts of the Southern Wild starring 9-year-old Quvenzhane Wallis, Argo directed by Ben Affleck and Lincoln.

"This has been a great year in movies, so I don't think we can have a loser," she said.

The First Lady’s fashion choices during the inaugural festivities last month were talked about just as much as her hair do. At the inaugural parade she wore a navy blue checkered Thom Brown coat, J.Crew belt, and Jimmy Choo shoes. For the inaugural ball she wore a red chiffon gown by Jason Wu.
