Is Michael Che leaving "Saturday Night Live" for good?

Che has been one of the most important pillars of "Saturday Night Live" as he serves as the co-anchor of its "Weekend Update" and the show's co-head writer.

But after years of helming the show, he sparked exit rumors after appearing in a pop-up show at a Minneapolis hair salon.

As reported by Star Tribune, the 38-year-old said that 2022 is his last year.

"You know my tie is a clip-on, right? What man wears a clip-on tie to work for eight years - that's embarrassing," he said.

Che's statement immediately went viral as it prompted the possibility of him leaving "Saturday Night Live."

However, that does not seem to be the case at all.

Michael Che Is NOT Going Anywhere

After going viral, the comedian took the fans' worries away by denying the speculation that he would no longer appear on the sketch comedy series.

On Instagram, he shared a screenshot of an article claiming that he would depart from the show.

"To comedy fans; please stop telling reporters everything you hear at a comedy show. youre spoiling the trick," he said. "I said it at a comedy show, and some dork transcribed it & wrote an article."

Deadline noted that "SNL" probably has no decisions yet about its cast for next season.

Che first joined the show as a writer in 2013 before ultimately replacing Cecily Strong on "Weekend Update" the following year. He then became the first Black person to score the role.

He grew further in the past years that he is now a co-head writer for the show. While Che is not yet seeing the end of his tenure on the show, his co-anchor, Colin Jost, previously addressed the possibility of leaving the show on multiple occasions.

In his 2020 memoir, "A Very Punchable Face," Jost commented on his reported exit after his 17-year run on the show. He revealed that he does not have a timeline. But due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he realized he was lucky to have a job and friends he got to work with.

Jost said that he was not rushing to leave the show, but he candidly disclosed his interest in trying other opportunities in his career.
