Christmas won't necessarily be merry for the residents of Weatherfield on Coronation Street.

Several families will be affected by decidedly un-cheerful news and events in the Monday, Dec. 23 episode of the British soap.

Kylie (Paula Lane) has been slowly spiraling out of control since her estranged husband David (Jack P. Sheperd) was brought back into the family fold. Not handling her problems well, she has turned to alcohol. When she shows up for work at the bistro hung-over, her sister-in-law Leanne (Jane Danson) gets irritated and calls for a family meeting.

The discussion between the two in-laws -- David, Leanne's husband Nick (Ben Price) and matriarch Gail (Helen Worth) -- does not go off as well as planned when Kylie begins to outrageously flirt with Kal (Jimi Mistry), before exposing family secrets.

Meanwhile, The Croppers will receive some grim news about Hayley's (Julie Hesmondhalgh) prognosis with her cancer. The news will shake Roy to his core, as it is a reminder that his love will not be around for another holiday season.

Sally (Sally Dynevor) will also receive some sad news when she finds out Rosie (Helen Flanagan) will not be returning home for the holidays, and Steve (Simon Gregson) will sneak out to meet up with old friend Andrea (Hayley Tamaddon).

The drama between Peter (Chris Gascoyne) and Tina (Michelle Keegan) will also heat up when Peter asks her over the flat to work out some child-minding arrangements. The two may find it difficult to resist their feelings for each other and could get caught in the act by Carla (Alison King).

Coronation Street airs Monday, Dec. 23 at 7:30 p.m. on ITV.
