Bill Lawrence revealed details about the Scrubs musical he is currently working on, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The show, which had a succesful 9 season run on NBC, had fans hoping on a movie adaptation after it wrapped. But Lawrence suggested that they had exhausted the potential of the story and seen it to a satisfying end through the long-run the show had on television, so he doesn't think a movie might be the way to go

"We filmed so many episodes that I feel like it had played its full course," Lawrence said. "You could argue Veronica Mars got cut short in its lifespan, but for us, I never really saw any life moving past nine years. It's not really the type of show for a movie."

Lawrence went on to talk about the theatrical adaptation of the show, which will essentially be a musical. He cited the great selection and generous use of music on the show and even one musical episode, when explaining his inspiration to work on such an adaptation.

The idea gained heft when Randall Winston, one of the producers of the show, was surprised to find out that Scrubs was very popular in London. It came as a revelation to Winston when he was talking to a British theater group.

"When Zach [Braff] went over there and did his play All New People, he'd come out at the end and there would be thousands of Scrubs fans," Lawrence added. "So then we really started taking seriously the idea of Scrubs as a musical. And the only reason I felt like we could entertain this idea is that it's not going on - it's going back."

Currently Lawrence and his team is in talks with various theater groups and the project is in the negotiation stage. The show creator also suggested that he neede to raise the right amount of funds to get production started. He added that Disney was only acting as a silent partner by allowing them the rights to "go shop it."
