Chad Johnson was officially cut from the Miami Dolphins NFL team several hours after he was released from jail on a domestic violence charge.

The wide receiver was arrested Saturday, Aug. 11, for headbutting his wife Evelyn Lozada after she confronted him about a receipt she found for a box of condoms.

"Everybody that sets foot in this building, we're all held to a high standard," Dolphins' head coach Joe Philbin told ESPN. "Do we want high-character guys? Yes," he added.

Philbin revealed that he spoke with Johnson five days earlier about a possible termination after a press conference last week. According to several reports, Johnson told reporters that he likes to smoke marijuana and is considering a second career in porn if he does not make the 53-man roster.

Philbin delivered the news of termination to Johnson following the team's football practice and several hours after he posted a $2,500 bond on Sunday for simple domestic battery, a misdemeanor. Lozada, who as not present in court, was granted an order of protection and Johnson was told to stay away, according to TMZ. He faces one year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.

The incident report posted on TMZ revealed that Lozada found the receipt in the trunk of the car she shared with her husband as she was taking groceries into their home. When she questioned Johnson, who recently changed his last name from Ochocinco, he responded with a head-butt to her forehead following an argument in the car.

The report also stated that he yelled, "I don't give a f***! I don't give a f*** about my career!"

TMZ also reported that Lozada ran to a neighbor's home to hide and call police. She was later taken to West Side Regional Hospital and released early Sunday after her injuries were treated. The affidavit stated that the reality star had a 3-inch cut on her forehead that required several stitches. Johnson told cops she said "F*** it!" then butt- headed him but that he did not have any visible injuries.

"She has a pretty good-sized laceration on her forehead," Davie Police Capt. Dale Engle told the Miami Herald.

Johnson has won six Pro Bowls but was already experiencing problems in his career. He was released by the New England Patriots after acquiring only 15 receptions last season.  At the Dolphins' exhibition game Friday, he dropped the only pass thrown his way, ESPN reported.

Lozada is the star of VH1's hit reality show "Basketball Wives." The show features several women in relationships with athletes and was created by Shaquille O'Neal's ex-wife Shaunie O'Neal. Lozada was once engaged to NBA player Antoine Walker.

Johnson and Lozada have been married for less than two months. When the couple wed on July 4 in Saint Martin, Johnson tweeted details of the event throughout the ceremony. The wedding was recorded for their "Basketball Wives" spin-off reality show "Ev and Och."

VH1 has not made an announcement if the show would still air or be dropped.
