This week director Bryan Singer announced exactly who will be taking on some of the franchise's most iconic roles in the upcoming film X-Men: Apocalypse.

Singer revealed the young actors taking on the roles of Storm, Cyclops, and Jean Grey on Twitter Jan. 22.

Perhaps the biggest name on the list is Sophie Turner, known for her role as Sansa Stark on the popular HBO series Game of Thrones. Tuner will be playing a younger version of Jean Grey, a role originated by Famke Janssen in Singer's original X-Men films.

Taking over Cyclops from James Marsden is Tye Sheridan, who became one of Hollywood's hottest young actors after starring alongside Matthew McConaughey in the 2012 drama Mud.

Alexandra Shipp, who recently starred in Straight Outta Compton and Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B, will be taking over as the fierce Storm from award winning actress Halle Berry.

According to The Verge on Jan. 23, the new timeline created in X-Men: Days of Future Past means that the young mutants might not necessarily be leading the same lives which led them to become the characters known in the original trilogy. This will allow the young performers to really make the characters their own, while at the same time staying true to the Marvel source material.

These newcomers will be joining original members of the X-Men reboot, including Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Mchael Fassbender (Magneto), Evan Peters (Quicksilver), and James McAvoy (Charles Xavier).

X-Men: Apocalypse is scheduled to hit theatres May 27, 2016.
