Speculation about a "Dawson's Creek" reunion fired up recently after former costars Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson reconnected, but it turns out the actors were discussing something different entirely.

Jackson told reporters he had spoken to Holmes for the first time in a long while following her divorce from Tom Cruise, which raised questions about whether the pair was discussing getting the "Dawson's Creek" crew back together.

But In Touch reports Holmes and Jackson were actually discussing an offer from Dawson himself, actor James Van Der Beek.

"Josh called to see if Katie had gotten a call from James Van Der Beek to do a Dawson's reunion on his new show," a source close the actors told In Touch. "James wanted them to come on his ABC show 'The B---- in Apartment 23.' But they're too busy."

The insider said Holmes and Jackson would have loved to bring everyone together again, but they couldn't make it work and "obviously one didn't want to do it without the other."

"They have a million things going on in their careers," the source said. "James was bummed."

Jackson spoke about his phone call catch-up with Holmes in an interview with the Canadian talk show "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight," saying he hadn't spoken to Holmes in years.

"Like any old friend, it was like, 'Oh, hi how are ya? What's going on?" he said, adding that Holmes replied, "I had a kid."

Holmes and Jackson dated during production on "Dawson's Creek." In a 1998 interview with Rolling Stone, Holmes called Jackson her "first love."

"I'm just going to say that I met somebody last year, I fell in love, I had my first love, and it was something so incredible and indescribable," she said in 1998.

These days, Jackson is dating German actress Diane Kruger. The couple got together in 2006 and share homes in Paris and Vancouver.
