In a recent interview with Vulture, Michael Kelly, who plays Doug Stamper in House of Cards, talked about the episode he sent in for consideration to the Emmy jury.

The actor sent episode 27 from season 3 to the panel, and the choice worked like a charm as he got a nomination. Kelly revealed that he had no hopes of getting that nomination and was suprised when showrunner Beau Willimon announced the nominations on the set of filming for season 4.

When Kevin Spacey (Frank Underwood) -- who was nominated with Robin Wright -- asked Kelly to check if he was nominated online, the actor was feeling quite hopeless. "I was like, 'Kevin, I don't think it's gonna happen,'" Kelly said.

But then before starting filming on the day of the reveal, Willimon took a moment to congratulate that crew for picking up 11 nominations and then he went through the list of the main cast members who got a nod from the Emmy jury. After congratulating Spacey and Wright, Willimon turned to Kelly.

"Then he said, 'And you.' He pointed at me," Kelly recalled. "I was like, 'What?!' He said, 'You!' And I was like, 'Oh my God!' I cried, I'll totally admit it. I got on the phone with my wife, my mom and dad. Then all day I had to go back to being Doug Stamper, which was tough because I was either laughing or crying the entire day."

Kelly reveals that Willimon also helped him pick out the episode to send in for consideration.

"I went up to Beau and was like, 'Hey, man, which one do you think I should submit? Beau thought about it for a while, and then he got back to me and was like, 'Definitely the first one. It's your recovery, and then there's that killer shot with the syringe. You gotta go with that,'" Kelly laughed.

Season 4 is set to return in 2016.
