Empire is already off to a juicy season just two episodes in so we can’t help but relive episode two with a behind-the-scenes recap from one of the show runners.

Ilene Chaiken told Variety that Wednesday night’s episode called Without A Country was a huge turning point for the show.

“Episode two sets up the central conflict of the entire season, or at least the entire first big arc of the season. Cookie and Hakeem are starting Lyon Dynasty. “

Of course this is only the beginning for Cookie and Hakeem as they have to battle Lucious Lyon and an overzealous Jamal Lyon.

“It’s Empire versus Lyon Dynasty, David against Goliath. These two music companies at very different points in their business lives are going to be going at one another— and the individuals behind them are going at one another to win.”

As for what artists we’ll see join Lyon Dynasty, Chaiken said it’s not likely that Tiana will jump on board.

There were also lots of familiar faces that graced the small screen during the series like Kelly Rowland who scored a guest role as none other than Lucious’ mother during a flashback scene that showed a portion of his childhood.

Rapper turned renowned actor Ludacris also played a tough cop who was bound to make sure Lucious felt the wrath of being in jail.

Other familiar faces were singer Becky G and Andre Royo.

Tune in to Empire Wednesday nights at 9/8c on Fox and keep up with Enstars for more.
