Anticipation continues to build for the upcoming season of CBS' Blue Bloods, which is set to return toward the end of the year with its fourth season.

In the latest news on the program, it was announced that actress Marisa Ramirez, who plays Detective Maria Baez, will be given a beefier role as a series regular when the program returns in the fall.

Ramirez initially came on board to replace Jennifer Esposito, who was put on medical leave for Celiac disease.  She will now be the fulltime partner of Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Walberg).

In an attempt to find the perfect fit opposite Walberg, the CBS network had tried three female leads (Ramirez, Megan Ketch, and Megan Boone) for the respective role.

Ramirez recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the exciting news, and how appreciative of the opportunity she truly is.

"It all still feels a bit surreal.  From the first day, everyone was so welcoming.  Working with Donnie and the cast and the crew of Blue Bloods can spoil a girl.  Total props, each and every one, and all so supportive.  I enjoyed every minute.  Truly, I never dreamed I would be coming back as a regular.  To say I'm grateful is an understatement," she said.

Although no airdate has been specifically set as of yet, Blue Bloods is slated to make its return for Season 4 at some point in the fall.  Be sure to keep checking back for more details on the show.
