Tiger Woods is undoubtedly one of the most renowned pro-golfers in the world today, but his career didn't take off overnight as his parents made a big sacrifice for him to continue what he loves doing.

During his speech at the World Golf Hall of Fame, an association that recently inducted him as one of the best golf players globally, the 46-year-old athlete got emotional when he opened up about his parents' sacrifice at a young age.

The world champion said his mom and dad took out a second mortgage on their house in order for him to play at the American Junior Golf Association. (watch a clip of his induction speech below)

"My family made a tough decision, and at the age of 14 and a half, we took out a second mortgage so I could go out and play the AJGA Tour," he said. (via PGA Tour)

When he started talking about his experience, Woods held back his tears as his mother watched in the audience. Her father wasn't in attendance as he passed away in 2006.

"Without the sacrifice of mom, who took me to all thouse junior golf tournaments. Dad, who's not here, but who instilled me this work ethic, to fight for what I believe in, chase after my dreams," he added.

Woods also shared a life lesson to the audience, saying if people don't work and put in an effort, they're not going to get the results they want to achieve.

He said that lesson defined him as who he is today.

According to SI, the athlete went to Stanford University for college, and he later became a professional at 20.

To pay off his parents' big sacrifice, the first thing he did was pay off their mortgage.

Who Are Tiger Woods' Parents?

Per Live About, the golfer's father, Earl Woods Sr., was a member of the United States Army who served at the time of the Vietnam War.

He was the one who introduced his son to the world of golf. Tiger Woods later played on military golf courses around California when he was young.

His father passed away at the age of 74 in May 2006.

On the other hand, his mother, Kultida Punsawad-Woods, made a significant impact on his son's career as she was the one who was always present in his tournaments.
