Will Smith broke his silence on the apology video he made after slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars.s

Last month, Smith addressed the infamous blunder in a YouTube video, titled, "It's been a minute." It was the first clip he made to say sorry to Rock as he previously posted a statement instead.

After the clip came out, a source revealed to Entertainment Tonight that the "King Richard" actor feels less ashamed after getting a weight off his chest. The insider added that the actor is now more confident after previously feeling very low spirits.

"He feels less ashamed now and more comfortable being out and about in public again because he has and continues to do the work that needs to be done for himself, his wife, his family, his friends, his colleagues, his fans, The Academy, Chris and Chris' family," the source continued.

It added that the 53-year-old star knows he still needs to work on many things after the incident and understands it would take him a long time before he could fix everything.

On the other hand, Smith is said to be regretful about the situation but puts his family first amid the criticisms he has been sustaining.

Although he already made the mistake, the actor reportedly still wants to become a great example to his kids and his loved ones.

In the end, the source expressed how hopeful Smith is that things between him and Rock will heal soon.

Will Smith To Have a Difficult Road Ahead

Before the insider disclosed the actor's current status, Regina Hall commented on Smith's apology video, tagging it as the first step in his "rough road" ahead.

In an interview with Variety, Hall said that the actor has been on a tough and challenging road. But offering an apology helped him see some progress.

She added that people evolve from where they are now.

Smith and Rock had an infamous encounter at the Oscars when the comedian joked about Jada Pinkett Smith's hairstyle.

For what it's worth, Rock joked about not being able to wait to see Pinkett Smith in "G.I. Jane 2." The comedian was unaware of the actress's alopecia diagnosis, which led to her hair loss.

After the joke, Smith went up to the stage and smacked Rock before telling him not to mention his wife's name.

The Academy has since released a statement, confirming that it banned Smith from attending and joining the event in the next years.
