The fourth season of ABC's Rookie Blue has officially wrapped up, but leaving many questions unanswered surrounding Andy's love triangle with Nick and Sam.

In the finale episode, fans saw Andy running back to Sam after he got shot and was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery. During the ambulance ride to the hospital, Andy spoke from her heart and told Sam how she really felt about him, despite being in a relationship with Nick.

Though it was not revealed if Sam made it out alive, Rookie Blue's executive producer, Tassie Cameron confirmed that his character will definitely be back next season.

"He's not dead at the end of the episode, so that's good. There's much more to be said and done with Sam. No, he's not dead," Cameron said in an interview with TVline.com.

Even though Nick gave Andy permission to be in the hospital room with Sam, Cameron revealed that it doesn't necessarily mean that the couple has broken up.

"It was really difficult, even though we knew where we were headed," Cameron said about how difficult it was to write in the script about the unfinished business between Andy and Sam. "It's not just the audience. The writing room is divided. Half of us are passionate Sam-and-Andy lovers, half of us loved Nick and Andy. It's quite interesting, and we really did set ourselves the goal this season of trying to build a viable, interesting alternative to the Sam-and-Andy relationship... We were exploring, as writers, whether it's true: Can you have loved somebody like Sam and then fall in love with a different kind of person? Is that possible? If so, what does it look like?"

Rookie Blue will begin filming its fifth season in January.
