Sad news for fans of ABC’s Rookie Blue this morning.

Actor Gregory Smith Brains Behind Craziest Episode Of 'Rookie Blue'

The show was officially cancelled after six seasons on the air. But this isn’t too much of a surprise for show runners, who prepared for the sixth season finale to be the last episode for the show altogether.

Many questions were answered and loose strings were tied up as Andy McNally and Sam Swarek tied the knot.

Their love story is the only one who dated back to the first season and lasted throughout the entire series. While she arrested him, blowing his undercover case, their chemistry later bloomed and in the end, they tied the knot (despite Sam’s ex-girlfriend Marlo Cruz giving birth to his child he fathered while Andy and Sam, or as fans called them, McSwarek were on a break).

“The success of ‘Rookie Blue’ is a testament not only to the extremely talented team of Ilana Frank, Tassie Cameron, David Wellington and studio Entertainment One. But the electrifying cast that has resonated with legions of fans that have followed the show since season1. After six seasons the series reached a natural conslusion, and this season’s finale was the perfect wrap-up for both our rookies and for fans,” said Shaw Media’s SVP and Chief Creative Officer Christine Shipton.

Interestingly enough, Cameron had just announced her departure from the show as Co-Executive Producer. Sherry White was slated to take her place had the series continued beyond six seasons.

She told TV Line earlier this month, “I’ve done 74 episodes on this show. I love it. I’ve loved it. These people are my fmily, the actors, the writers, the producers. It is a very, very difficult decision, but by the end of [Season 6], I felt like I’d told the story that I wanted to tell and the show would benefit from being kind of rebooted with somebody’s new vision for it.”

The show also aired in Canada on Global TV.
