Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey 'American Idol' 2013 Season 12 Beef, Husband Nick Cannon Says 'Satan' Comment Was Not A Diss To Rapper
After Mariah Carey appeared to have reignited her feud with Nicki Minaj with a cryptic statement she made last week, her husband Nick Cannon defended her comment to squash the ongoing beef.
Carey told New York radio station Hot 97 host Angie Martinez that being a judge on American Idol season 12 was "hell" because she had to "go to work every day with Satan." The Nov. 14 comment went viral because it was assumed Carey was referring to Minaj, whom she had an ongoing feud with throughout the season. Carey's husband, however, suggested her words meant otherwise.
"I don't think her comment was about anyone on the panel," Cannon told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Friday's Access Hollywood Live. "I don't think she was speaking directly about [Nicki Minaj]. I think she was talking about the situation in general."

Carey explained to Martinez she agreed to become a season 12 judge because she thought only two other people would be sitting alongside her. She assumed only herself, longtime friend Randy Jackson and one other male would sit at the judging table.
"Honestly I thought it was going to be a three-person panel. Thought it would be a nice monetary dangling moment. Randy Jackson will be there, I've known him forever, he use to play bass for me, this will be nothing but it wasn't that. It was like hell. Going to work every day with Satan," Carey laughed. "I was disappointed. I like being in the studio better and going on my own tours."
The Hollywood Reporter reported in September that season 13 of Idol will feature Harry Connick, Jr., Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban as the judges. Lopez previously sat at the judging table for seasons 10 and 11.
According to an earlier Hollywood Reporter article, Lopez is the only female judge this season because the network wanted to avoid a repeat friction similar to the drama between Carey and Minaj.
