Phillip Phillips is recovering from a kidney surgery on Friday at a hospital in Los Angeles with his parents by his side.

The singer who won American Idol 2012, underwent a six and a half hour procedure on Thursday to remove "huge" stones that he could have never pass on his own, according to reports.

"Surgery went well, he's resting and will be ready for the Idol tour kick off in July!" a rep for Idol producers 19 Entertainment told The Hollywood Reporter.

Phillip's parents were with him in L.A. for his recovery, according to ABC's channel WALB.

The 21-year-old singer from Leesburg, Georgia, postponed the surgery to be able to compete on American Idol, despite his doctor's advice.

He is expected to recover fully on time for the American Idol tour which kicks off on July 6.

Phillips reportedly suffers from a congenital kidney condition. During American Idol, he underwent eight surgeries.

He admitted that it was tough to deal with the pain during the show.

Phillips' chronic kidney problems were a major story throughout the run of American Idol. At one point in the competition he had to be rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe abdominal pain.
