American Idol winner Phillip Phillips was released from the hospital.

Phillips underwent kidney surgery at a hospital in Los Angeles to remove stones that were too big to be passed.

"I'm out of the hospital and back to work!" Phillips told E! News. "Looking forward to the future."

The singer was released on Sunday, according to E!

Phillips' kidney surgery reportedly lasted for six and a half hours. However, it's not the first one for the rocker.

During American Idol he underwent eight surgeries to treat his kidney problem, his father told People Magazine.

Phillips is scheduled to perform with the other nine American Idol singers at a tour that launches on July 6 in Detroit, Michigan and wraps up on September 11 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

However, Phillips is already enjoying success. His single "Home" broke the record for the highest number of debut digital downloads.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, the crooner had 278,000 digital downloads the first week of June - a record high for a debut single.
