One of the former stars of ER is joining the cast of Under the Dome in season 2 for a pivotal role.

Joe's New Possible Love Interest Takes Him Away from Norrie?

Sherry Stringfield, who played Dr. Susan Lewis on ER, is set to play a character named Pauline in Under the Dome in season 2, according to TV Guide. Pauline is a mysterious woman who could have an intriguing connection to the origin of the dome.

It is entirely probable that this Pauline character is really Pauline Rennie, mother to Junior (Alexander Koch) and husband to Big Jim Rennie (Dean Norris). Though Pauline has been presumed dead since the beginning of the series, a previous TV Guide report stated that she will be a factor in season 2.

Stringfield's casting as Pauline marks a reunion with Under the Dome executive producer Neal Baer.

"I'm thrilled after all these years to be working again with Sherry Stringfield," Baer said in the TV Guide report. "We had a blast on ER together and I know Sherry will bring the same grace, spirit and intensity to her new, pivotal role on Under the Dome."

Stringfield is one of many new actors who have signed on to Under the Dome in season 2. Other actors include Eddie Cahill, who is set to play EMT Sam, the brother-in-law of Big Jim, and Karla Crome, who will play schoolteacher Rebecca.

The season 2 premiere of Under the Dome will be written by Stephen King, who wrote the novel on which the TV series is based.

Under the Dome season 2 premieres Monday, June 30 at 10 p.m. on CBS.
