The series finale of How I Met Your Mother has finally arrived, and the episode appears to be living up to the promise that it would tie up as many loose ends as possible.

Final Episode Could End Like 'Lost?'

In a preview clip of the two-episode finale, Last Forever Parts I and II, the gang gathers at Ted and the Mother's place after they've moved in together, and Marshall reveals that after giving up his position as a New York City judge so Lily could go to Italy for her job, he was forced to take a job in corporate law once again, something he never wanted to go back to.

"So Marshall, how's your job going?" Barney asks in the clip.

Series Finale To Feature Flashback To First Season?

"My chair...is reasonably comfortable...for short periods of time," he responds, to the confused looks on his friends' faces.

Lily then explains that Marshall has decided to only say positive things about his return to corporate law, and that they firmly believe the job is only temporary because he did a selfless thing by giving up the judge position so she could go to Italy, and that karma would come back and reward him once more for doing that.

"But the job is only temporary...Marshall was offered the judgeship once, and he turned it down for me," she says. "So karmically, that phone has to ring again."

"And even if it doesn't, today, when my boss threw his egg salad sandwich at my face, some of it got into my mouth, and it was tasty," Marshall then pipes up.

The finale will also finally see the conclusion of Ted telling his kids the story of how he met their mother, and should reveal the reason why the story was told.

Fans have speculated several theories about the show's ending, including ones where the mother dies, and another with Ted beginning to suffer from Alzheimer's disease.

Though the show creators won't give any direct hints about what the finale will feature, Carter Bays did tell USA Today that at its heart, the show has always been a love story, and that's how it will end.

"This is the ending we've been heading toward," he said. "It says everything that we've wanted to say about showing the complete picture of what it means to love somebody."

The How I Met Your Mother series finale airs tonight, Monday, March 31 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
