With less than a week to go until the series finale episode of How I Met Your Mother, the cast continues to throw curveballs at the fans that are designed to keep them guessing about how the series will conclude its nine-year tale.

Ted And Robin Rekindle Their Flame In Series Finale?

With wild theories circulating on the internet, including ones that the Mother will die and Ted has Alzheimer's, a new one has potentially been thrown into the works by Alyson Hannigan, who has played Lily Aldrin on the show for nine years.

Hannigan sat down with Time to talk about the series finale of the show on March 24, and jokingly hinted that the finale could be more shocking than fans realize.

Mother Death Theory Resurfaces In 'Surprising' Series Finale?

When asked about the theory that the mother has actually been dead this whole time, Hannigan replied, "We could all be dead. Who knows?"

Though her comment is most likely a joke, fans of ABC's hit drama Lost, which ended in 2010, remember that that show ended by revealing all of the characters had actually been dead the entire time.

However, despite potentially throwing a new and somewhat more disturbing theory into the mix, Hannigan has maintained that the final episode is beautifully done, admitting to E! News that she had a hard time getting through filming it.

"I laughed, I cried, and I was like, 'How are we going to shoot this? I'm going to be a mess!'" she said. "But it was wonderful, and it was the perfect way to go out, and I'm so grateful that we got a season nine to end the show the way it should be. It deserved this ending."

Fans interested in seeing just how the series will wrap things up will need to tune in to CBS on Monday, March 31, at 8 p.m. for the special 1-hour finale episode, Last Forever.
